2015 Texas Avery Award Honorees Phil Lord and Chris Miller

Phil Lord and Chris Miller are the prolific writing and directing duo behind some of today’s most successful comedy films including, THE LEGO MOVIE, 21 & 22 JUMP STREET and CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF MEATBALLS.

In 2014, the duo saw incredible success at the box office and are the only writers/directors with two films ranked among the top highest grossing features of the year. THE LEGO MOVIE, which the pair wrote and directed, debuted at #1 and remained on top of the box office for four straight weeks. The hugely successful film has earned over $468 million worldwide and to-date, is the 4th highest grossing domestic feature of 2014. The film, which earned Miller and Lord rave reviews for their imaginative and unique sensibilities, has been green lit for a sequel, which the pair will write and produce, and multiple spin-offs. The film also earned Lord and Miller the BAFTA, PGA and BFCA Critics Choice Awards for Best Animated Feature, as well as the National Board of Review award for Best Original Screenplay and The Annie Award for Outstanding Achievement in Writing for an Animated Feature. Additionally, the film was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Animated Film and was one of the top ten films of 2014 on over 75 critics’ lists.

The duo also directed 22 JUMP STREET in 2014, which also debuted at #1 and has garnered over $331 million worldwide, earning the pair praise for their innate ability to transform unlikely material into cinematic brilliance. Lord and Miller also previously wrote and directed the animated feature CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF MEATBALLS, which was loosely based on the beloved children’s book of the same name and earned a Golden Globe and Critics Choice nomination for Best Animated Feature along with four Annie Award nominations for excellence in animation, including Best Direction and Best Screenplay.

Lord and Miller recently returned to their television roots and are currently executive producers on the new Fox comedy series The Last Man on Earth, which premiered on March 1st. The duo also directed the first 2 episodes of the series, which is written by and stars Will Forte as the sole male survivor working to ensure the survival of the human race at the end of the world. The series received rave reviews and was the highest rated broadcast series of the night with 5.7 million viewers during its debut airing. Lord and Miller also directed the pilot episode of the breakout hit “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” which was one of most anticipated television series of the 2013 Fall Season. Also among their television writing credits, the duo served as co-executive producers on successful CBS sitcom .

Lone Star State legend and influential writer, actor and producer Carson first gained recognition as creator of the mockumentary, DAVID HOLZMAN’s DIARY (1968), and co-wrote PARIS, TEXAS (1984).

Blythe Danner
Danner is well regarded for her roles in films such as MEET THE PARENTS and THE GREAT SANTINI. The Emmy-winning and Golden Globe-nominated actress is alos know for her work on television shows such as Will & Grace and Huff.

John Landis
A director for more than 40 years, Landis' films include NATIONAL LAMPOON’S ANIMAL HOUSE (1980), THE BLUES BROTHERS (1978) and AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON (1981).
